Visa rolling out payWave mobile phone payments in NY subway and taxis — Engadget

Okay, I want to say two things about this based on my experience in Japan:  First, with Japanese phones, when you scan the phone, the payment is almost instant — you don’t even have to stop walking.  Second, the fact you have to open the freakin’ app in order for it to work seems super annoying to me.
